It is strangely satisfying to deep clean in springtime. This season, we took deep cleaning a little too far, as we approached a week-long renovation at the Den.

Let’s not forget the tasks we accomplished last fall and winter: We stained the cedar plank siding of the house and replaced the existing hot tub, shown above. (Whew!)

This spring, our sights were set on replacing the kitchen and sunroom tile, which had endured a lot of wear and tear. The former kitchen tile was a light brown shade, which we think blended into the kitchen’s gorgeous cabinetry — one of the room’s best assets! See below.

Other goals were to add lighting to our gazebo for this summer’s wedding events, as well as updating many lighting fixtures outside and inside the house. We also restocked linens, cleaning supplies, paper products and more. It was a full week!

That said, we are thrilled with how things turned out! Several additional projects remain — we’re waiting on a couple furniture pieces — and then it’s time to call in the pros to photograph the finished projects. For now, these snaps will have to do!

In addition to the new tile, we replaced the bar stools, added a new light and added a larger table (seating 8-10) plus comfortable leather seating. I love the contrast the concrete-style tiles give the kitchen!

The interior lighting got a vast improvement when we replaced a too-small overhead fan with this gorgeous chandelier visible from the entryway, kitchen and even the sunroom. It really helps make the large living spaces feel more cohesive.

Exterior lighting improvements include these black barn lights. I’ve purchased multiple fixtures from Barn Light Electric over the years and I’m always impressed by the quality!

Additional barn lights on side of the house near our spa with my little helper! (The stain on the house near our lights is still wet, so ignore for now.) The little guy is great at grabbing tools while you’re on the ladder. 🙂

A last look at the gazebo lighting … which our son likes to call Charlotte’s Web! Ha! The string lights are magical at night, and I love that the LED bulbs will last for years. We also added string lights to the pergola, although I didn’t capture a photo – yet!
